This webinar focuses on the microbiology and diagnosis of, and prescribing for, Urinary Tract Infections. Professor Chris Butler and Dr Mandy Wootton (lead scientist at University Hospital Wales) discuss their research studies and findings.

In Webinar 5 Professor Chris Butler and Dr Mandy Wootton discuss the management of patients with suspected urinary tract infections. The discussion is informed by recent Welsh and English antibiotic resistance data, and recent EU studies involving women presenting with urinary symptoms. The new TARGET UTI Patient leaflet was also launched.

Chris Butler practices as a GP in Mountain Ash, South Wales and is Professor of Primary Care at the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences and Director or the Clinical Trials Unit at the University of Oxford. His main research interests are in common infections and health behaviour change.

Dr Mandy Wootton is the lead Scientist for the Antimicrobial Resistance reference Unit for Wales, is the secretary for the Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing Standing Committee for the British Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) and has been researching UTI microbiology and antimicrobial resistance for >20 years.

The webinar was led by Professor Cliodna McNulty, Head of PHE Primary Care Unit and lead for the TARGET antibiotics project.
